Between Art and Life, the Florence exhibition in Palazzo Pitti curated by Alberto Salvadori – produced and sponsored by the Osservatorio Arti Contemporanee (OAC) and the Fondazione Pitti Discovery, with the cooperation of the Andrea Rosen Gallery of New York and the Galleria Massimo De Carlo of Milan, presents a selection of more than 80 works of the artist, two of which were created specifically for this occasion. The show ranges from wagon stations to living systems and capsules for extreme situations, such as the desert, to clothing-uniforms, to gouaches, panel paintings and paper rugs.
“To see Andrea Zittel at the Galleria del Costume in Palazzo Pitti”, says Alberto Salvadori, the exhibition curator, “is to discover daily life, the personal dimension of living in a space that has turned the tiniest gestures of a lost intimacy into something fit for a museum”.
The exhibition opening at Palazzo Pitti – and this being Andrea Zittel’s first show in a public museum in Italy – will be the core artistic event of the forthcoming Pitti Uomo fashion week. The exhibiton will show at Galleria del Costume, Sale della Meridiana from June 18th until July 16th 2010.

During the next fashion week in Florence, Haider Ackermann will showcase his talents for the 6th edition of Pitti W_Precollections and Jil Sander will highlight the 78th Edition of Pitti Uomo (June 15 to 18, 2010) with showing its new Men Collection.
“We are very happy that Haider Ackermann and Jil Sander have accepted our invitation”, says Lapo Cianchi, director of communications and events for Pitti Immagine, “because they both represent that outstanding ability to develop original concepts in fashion, which is precisely what we look for in our work with fashion designers.”
“We have been tracking Haider Ackermann since his first shows in Paris and now that his poetic, his visionary talent and his feeling for memory have come together with increasing dramatic and seductive force, we decided that the time has come to offer him a different stage – our stage where he can feel free to continue his personal story or perhaps even be inspired to experiment with something new. We too are very curious”.
“If this is a Florence debut for Jil Sander, one of the driving forces in luxurious and innovative men’s fashion, for Raf Simons, its creative director, it is a comeback after several fashion projects. I believe that the brand and its creative director know what to expect here at Pitti: places and opportunities that will leverage the concept of this upcoming presentation. And as for us, having seen his recent work for Jil Sander, we are again – or rather still – fascinated by his extraordinary ability to be in step with the times”.
